Hormel Foods Corporate Office North

Always mindful of the future, Hormel and the Harris design team chose to incorporate green building practices into the construction of the office 28,000-square foot addition that was awarded LEED Gold certification.

Some of the sustainable aspects of the building included:

  • Geothermal heating and cooling systems, utilizing vertical bore well loops
  • Low-flow plumbing fixtures for water conservation
  • Rainwater collection cistern
  • All heating and cooling systems are controlled via computer program, including occupancy sensors, to operate only when necessary and provide optimum comfort to the users of the space

On average, Hormel was able to save 40 percent on utility costs comparatively to standard building construction.
