The Hotel Minneapolis

Harris was hired by M.A. Mortenson Company to help transition a 10-story vintage bank building into a sleek downtown hotel. Harris performed the design-build mechanical construction and temperature control services. Harris worked closely with the project team to preserve the key architectural elements of the building, while installing efficient mechanical and temperature control systems.

Harris had to be creative while installing modern air conditioning and heating systems in the older building. The beautiful lobby contained marble, ornate plaster and woodwork the project owner wished to preserve. Harris carefully installed an HVAC system that would not alter the character of the room.

An addition to aesthetic concerns, Harris took care to ensure that new systems worked well in the old building. A new commercial kitchen installed in the basement had to be carefully designed to ensure proper ventilation and cooling features. Harris was also able to introduce several energy savings opportunities including high efficiency chillers (which returned the premium costs within one year of operation), high efficiency motors and direct digital controls.
