Los Angeles International Airport Central Utility Plant Replacement Project
Location:Los Angeles, CA
Scope:HVAC/ Sheet Metal, LEED Silver
Superior provided the HVAC sheet metal required for Los Angeles International Airport’s overhaul of their central plant. Overall, Superior fabricated 120,000 pounds of sheet metal for the project and ensured proper procedures were followed for the client’s LEED Silver Certification goals.
The transportation of people and equipment was a major challenge for the project team. The lay down area was five miles away from the project site through heavy traffic. To reduce time spent on the road, Superior relied on intense coordination with its partners and good communication amongst people on the ground.
As part of installation, Superior required a crane to bring equipment to roof level. Superior performed the crane picks at night so roads were only closed during low traffic times.
When faced with cost increases, Superior brought the client savings by incorporating vendors and manufactures in the design meetings and scheduling.
