MCES Sludge Incinerator

Harris teamed with Von Roll Inc to provide sludge incineration at the largest of the eight sewage plants in the Metropolitan Council of Environmental Services (MCES) system. Von Roll Inc designed the incineration process. Harris helped procure the project, provided mechanical systems design and directed the construction coordination with other contractors.

The MCES project included the design, procurement and installation of three fluidized bed incinerator trains. Each train included the fluidized bed incinerator, primary and secondary heat exchangers, waste heat boiler, bag house, wet electrostatic precipitator, wet scrubber, and associated fans and ductwork. Auxiliary boilers, water and chemical treatment, and ash handling systems were also included.

Harris worked closely with A & B Welding & Construction Inc on the design phase of the project to handle constructability issues surrounding the tight site conditions and multiple contractor staging areas.
