UI Voxman Music Building

Harris was awarded the mechanical contract providing plumbing, piping, HVAC and BIM modeling and detailing services for the new Voxman Music Building on the University of Iowa (UI) campus. One of the most striking features of this five-story building is its large glass exterior designed to make the facility more open to the public and highlight its new location in the downtown area. It also features various noise reduction and environmental design elements and materials in the design and construction to meet the requirements for LEED certification.

The new music building includes a 700-seat concert hall, a 200-seat recital hall, an organ performance hall, classrooms, faculty studios and numerous rehearsal spaces of various sizes.

The 184,000-square foot building is pending LEED Silver certification. Harris professionals used their knowledge of LEED standards to incorporate energy and environmental conservation into the construction. Because this is a music building, Harris carefully considered all equipment and installed extensive vibration control systems to fulfill UI’s goal of noise reduction in the mechanical systems.
