U of M Amundson Hall Gore Annex Addition/Upgrades

The University of Minnesota’s Amundson Hall Lab Addition is a 42,000-square foot chemistry lab addition known as the Gore Annex. Remodel involved complete plumbing, HVAC, controls and fire protection services.

Sandwiched between buildings, the remodel of the 65-year-old building took place in occupied lab spaces with frequent student traffic. Lab air balancing was affected by existing building systems which required additional project team work to resolve.

Harris provided a substantial amount of value engineering to help bring the chemistry lab addition/remodel project into budget. The team also overcame a variety of challenges including no on-site parking or material storage.

The project allows for growth in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Department, which has experienced a 30 percent increase in student enrollment during the past few years.
